I really like that your main aim in your choreography is the create awareness of a very schizophrenia. You have clearly done some in depth research into this disorder also. I like the way you have mentioned your choreography schedule and gone into detail with this. Are you enjoying choreographing your own solo?
Thank you! I am enjoying it a lot as there is so much going on behind the actual choreographing. Everything has meaning and a purpose, I'm not just putting random steps together which makes it very interesting.
You have spoken clearly and have shown that you have taken good care in researching both your practitioner and your stimulus. Which choreographic devices do you think will link well to your research and how do you hope to incorporate them into your piece? I think that you time management schedule will be very effective and will help you have a clear vision of where you are at in your work and what you need to get completed each week, well done.
thanks! I think that embellishment would be a good one to show how someone who is affected by schizophrenia's perspective can differ to someone who is not. I think I could definitely incorporate it through an arm movement or hand movement.
thank you! I thought it was inspiring how she used her platform to bring awareness to important issues and this then influenced my own thought process. In flight pattern, there is floor work and gesticulation that I wish to include in my own choreography.
I quite enjoyed watching this piece as there was a myriad of components that appealed to me as both a dancer and spectator. The music was definitely one of the most prominent features that influenced the piece- the score started off with violin plucking, this in turn evoked the feeling of anticipation and excitement. The odd time signature is the first aspect that connoted towards an idea or freedom or normality. The video starts off in a typical studio setting however there is a dog- this anomaly could have been easily overlooked as a random choreographic quirk but alternately it can be interpreted as Peck highlighting the theme of normalcy in this piece. The girl's reflection takes out her hair and lets it down- this simple action has significance as it further contributes to this idea of freedom and letting go. Within the dance it was interesting to observe that all the transition steps were running, again promoting the theme of freedom. What can also be appreciated from ...
The studio performance went better than I anticipated it would be. I was initially very worried about forgetting my dance or making a mistake but I didn't and I am overall quite pleased with the final outcome. I am very glad we had the opportunity to have a studio rehearsal as we were able to get feedback from my teacher and peers as a new perspective can help identify problems, spacing issues and clarity of dynamics being among these. My feedback from my teacher was to firstly be more expressive while I'm dancing, I feel that I definitely could have used my facial expression more but I was too focused on just remembering the choreography. Next time I perform, I am really going to emphasise this and loosen up my neck as I know it will enhance my performance and make it appear more natural. Furthermore I need to be more spatially aware as I seemed to have run out of space during the front-right corner section. To rectify this, I have thought about what opportunities I can use...

In this critique I will be exploring comparisons in movement style, dynamics and intentions of 'Emergence' and the two other pieces I have previously reviewed. I feel that the narrative and influences of this piece are so different to 'Flight Pattern' and 'The Seasons Canon'. This work aims to show the parallels between the "social organization of bees and the hierarchical nature of classical ballet companies"(Scene, 2019) however in contrast to this, 'Flight Pattern' depicts the flight of refugees. Although Pite can create touching and emotional pieces that can relate to current iss...

DeleteI love how your main focus is making people aware of schizophrenia, as you said we don’t get taught about it enough which is true!
ReplyDeleteWhy did you find Crystal Pites “Flight Pattern” Inspiring and has this developed more ideas for your choreography?
