STUDIO PERFORMANCE

The studio performance went better than I anticipated it would be. I was initially very worried about forgetting my dance or making a mistake but I didn't and I am overall quite pleased with the final outcome. I am very glad we had the opportunity to have a studio rehearsal as we were able to get feedback from my teacher and peers as a new perspective can help identify problems, spacing issues and clarity of dynamics being among these. My feedback from my teacher was to firstly be more expressive while I'm dancing, I feel that I definitely could have used my facial expression more but I was too focused on just remembering the choreography. Next time I perform, I am really going to emphasise this and loosen up my neck as I know it will enhance my performance and make it appear more natural. Furthermore I need to be more spatially aware as I seemed to have run out of space during the front-right corner section. To rectify this, I have thought about what opportunities I can use...

CRITICAL REVIEW OF DANCE PIECE 2

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lju0oiiffam5rut/AABKDV5jnaU_xNFLVve7DttGa?dl=0&preview=Pite+2+-+Cannon+Duets.MP4.m4v Pite's 'The Seasons Canon' is an innovative piece that was created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 2016. In this critique I will be exploring comparisons in movement styles, dynamics and intentions featured in Pite's other work, 'Flight Pattern'. This choreography focuses on the natural world and can be interpreted as "tribal" or "futuristic" (Nytimes.com, 2019). An aspect that I also observed in Flight Pattern was how well the dancers worked together in their duets; the performance was seamless because all the lifts and transference of weight looked so effortless and fluid, which really contributed to an enjoyable performance. The dancers relied on each other during all the counterbalances- this can be linked to how all the components of nature are interdependent and need each other to survive. The dynamics of both dances ar...

WEEK 9 CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT -SESSION 3

WEEK 8 CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT- SESSION 2

Image
This creative session has been productive and I have roughly finished about 2 minutes of my dance, which I am quite happy with considering our timeframe. One of the things I struggled with was transition steps, I often found myself either repeating the same transition steps like running/walking or running out of ideas on how to link certain movements together. To combat this, next lesson I will improvise to my song (choreographic device: improvisation around a stimulus) and observe how my body naturally wants to move from one place to another; hopefully I will gain some new ideas and help me overcome this problem. I feel that I have successfully been able to convey my stimulus through the choreographic devices I have incorporated so far. For example, the difference between my slow floor work and faster elevated movements conveyed the mood swings that people who suffer from schizophrenia experience. I have also incorporated the use of levels; throughout the dance I transition between ...
